The Department for Education has confirmed that it expects to consult publicly on curriculum and assessment proposals, including media and digital literacy, later in 2026. The consultation will follow the Government’s response to the Curriculum and Assessment Review final report.

In a written parliamentary answer, the DfE also said that it will consider any teacher-training requirements as part of the review process. It pointed to existing provision through citizenship, RSHE, English and computing, alongside current support from Oak National Academy, Educate Against Hate and the National Centre for Computing Education.

This is a timetable signal, not final curriculum content and not a new immediate requirement for schools. The strengthened RSHE guidance already in force from September is separate. For educators, the consultation should provide the next concrete opportunity to examine proposed progression, subject responsibilities and the support teachers may need to teach media and AI literacy confidently.
