The Department for Education has refreshed its free AI support materials for the 2026–27 academic year. Developed by the Chiltern Learning Trust and Chartered College of Teaching, they cover understanding AI, working with generative tools, safety and possible uses in education.

Staff can use the slides, videos, activities and planning templates individually or in groups. DfE recommends the safety module regardless of prior experience.

For educators

These materials offer a starting point for a staff discussion about appropriate use and safeguards. They are staff-development resources, not a new compulsory pupil curriculum. Schools will still need to relate the examples to their own pupils, policies and teaching priorities.
